for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

Luke 1:46-55
Well, here we are in week 2 of the Christmas series. God should come first all year long. Christmas is no different. But this isn't how we always deal with Christmas, it is? When it's our birthday, we get gifts. And when it's Jesus' birthday, we get gifts again. Does that make sense?
But here we read a song by Mary, the pregnant mother of the Son of God. It's a good song. It's great that she was even in the mood for writing songs. Many pregnant women are only in the mood to eat. While they eat, they send their husbands to go get more food, so they can keep eating.
But Mary packs in a lot about the greatness of God in this one song. And we see both positive and negative as regards man. I won't hold your hand and walk you across the street. Simply notice that God does what He wants to with man. Those who are humble see God's good side. Those who are proud experience God like a dad who's been woken up early from his nap.
Mary's soul glorifies the Lord. I hope yours will too this Christmas season.
